Large investments have also come from oil giants Shell and ExxonMobil. Shell plans to spend $1 to $2 billion per year developing their Marcellus assets. Guardian, Fortuna, Gastem, and Enerplus are other Canadian owned companies that have made large investments in the Marcellus Field.

On an industry wide basis, investment in infrastructure and storage is projected to be $100-165 billion by 2030.
